The Siuslaw Pioneer Museum’s collection includes items and artifacts of local pioneer families, their descendants and long-time residents. The Museum is unique, in that exhibits showcase only historical items of the Siuslaw Valley and its surrounding areas. Many of the artifacts were made or used in the every day life of our pioneers. We welcome your visit Wednesday through Sunday, noon to 4 p.m.
Searchable online indexes of Family Names and Subject Files are available as a source for your research or view the indexes and files at the on-site William Kyle Research Library. The library is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 11 to 3 p.m. Call the library at (541) 997-7884, ext.1 for more information.
EXHIBITS
A Rotating Display is located in the museum lobby and is replaced with a new exhibit approximately every two months. Our newest display features a History of the Cushman Railroad. It includes images, captions and display items to celebrate the builders of the Cushman Bridge and train crew members. Our upcoming Rotating Display will feature the U.S. Coast Guard. Our Then and Now on-line Photo Gallery features historical images of a location alongside a contrasting image recently taken at the same location.
STORIES
Enjoy stories? The Oral History Project includes interviews and stories of descendants from pioneer families and long-term residents. Stories include surviving a shipwreck, being among the first white settlers to live on the North Fork, a sawmill career, and more. Life was about attending a one-room school, growing up in a Civil Conservation Corp camp, working in a sawmill or a story of pitching the first no-hitter baseball game for Siuslaw High School.
